Autumn Drinks

The weather is getting distinctly chillier, the leaves are turning golden and alfresco drinks in the sunshine seem like a far distant memory. However, this time of year is a fantastic time to enjoy something a little warmer, to get creative with your drinks and try some new tastes right?

Right! So what drinks should you be adding to your cabinet for the Autumn months?

Firstly, we’ll start with the obvious (the clue is in the name here) – Whisky! It’s warming, it’s soothing and the perfect tipple to enjoy in front of a warm fire with the wind and rain battering at the windows… (We lost ourselves in a daydream for a second there, we can picture it already).
Whisky is versatile, you can enjoy it straight up, on the rocks, with water, with a mixer or even as part of a cocktail. Oh and let’s not forget the infinitely warming and deliciously delightful ‘Hot Toddies’. Our souls warm up a bit just thinking about it!

Boondocks 11 Year Old

Matured for 11 years in American white oak barrels, this 11-year-old Boondocks just might knock your socks off. The singular American whiskey has a creamy, buttery mouthfeel, a complex fruitiness and a long, enjoyable finish. The perfect comforting accompaniment to your Autumnal evening for sure.

Aber Falls Rhubarb & Ginger Gin

We certainly love a gin with a twist, particularly when it includes a twist of seasonal tasting notes like this Aber Falls Rhubarb and Ginger Gin: it’s sweet, it’s spicy and it’s the perfect choice for a chilly evening.

Ron Zacapa – Centenario – 23 Year Old Solera Rum

This 23 year old beauty won a Platinum Medal at the Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago, walking off with an incredible 97 points. With its intense nose, succulent notes of vanilla, almond and toasted wood, and evocative finish: it’s Autumn in a glass for sure.

Mull it over

This time of year is when you get to enjoy your favourite beverages with a seasonal difference, that’s right, it’s mulled time! Did you know that as well as the more commonly known mulled wine and ciders, you can also mull gin and rum too? You sure can!

Liqueurs

Then there are the liqueurs, the perfect addition to change your drink depending on the season, there’s a vast amount to choose from, but our favourites include:

  • The Jack Daniels Tennessee Fire – like it says on the tin (or bottle), IT’S FIREY! It’ll warm you up no end with its hints of vanilla and cinnamon.
  • The Heering Coffee Liqueur – a wonderfully smooth and light coffee liqueur made with cocoa, Caribbean rum and coffee.
  • And finally, if something doesn’t scream a more Autumn feel than toffee (cue memories of Bonfire Night Toffee Apples) then we haven’t found it yet. Check out the Aber Falls Salted Toffee Liqueur for a taste sensation you won’t forget in a hurry.

We do enjoy seeing your own concoctions using spirits you’ve bought from The Whisky World. If you’re feeling inspired, send us your pictures and let us know what other Autumn drinks we should be enjoying over the next few months.
